  130. Upon request of the Superintendent of Documents, components of 
  131. the Government ordering the printing of publications shall either 
  132. increase or decrease the number of copies of publications furnished for 
  133. distribution to designated depository libraries and State libraries so 
  134. that the number of copies delivered to the Superintendent of Documents 
  135. is equal to the number of libraries on the list.  The number thus 
  136. delivered may not be restricted by any statutory limitation in force on 
  137. August 9, 1962.  Copies of publications furnished the Superintendent of 
  138. Documents for distribution to designated depository libraries shall 
  139. include--the journals of the Senate and House of Representatives; all 
  140. publications, not confidential in character, printed upon the requisition 
  141. of a congressional committee; Senate and House public bills and 
  142. resolutions; and reports on private bills, concurrent or simple 
  143. resolutions; but not so-called cooperative publications which must 
  144. necessarily be sold in order to be self-sustaining.

  146. The Superintendent of Documents shall currently inform the 
  147. components of the Government ordering printing of publications as to 
  148. the number of copies of their publications required for distribution to 
  149. depository libraries.  The cost of printing and binding those 
  150. publications distributed to depository libraries obtained elsewhere 
  151. than from the Government Printing Office, shall be borne by components 
  152. of the Government responsible for their issuance; those requisitioned 
  153. from the Government Printing Office shall be charged to 
  154. appropriations provided the Superintendent of Documents for that 
  155. purpose.

  195. Superintendent of Documents, and when requested from him, shall be 
  196. distributed to depository libraries specifically designated by law and 
  197. to libraries designate Senators, Representatives, and the Resident 
  198. Commissioner from Puerto Rico, by the Commissioner of the District of 
  199. Columbia, and by the Governors of Guam, American Samoa, and the 
  200. Virgin Islands, respectively.  Additional libraries within areas served 
  201. by Representatives or the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico may 
  202. be designated by them to receive Government publications to the extent 
  203. that the total number of libraries designated by them does not exceed 
  204. two within each area.  Not more than two additional libraries within 
  205. a State may be designated by each Senator from the State.  Before an 
  206. additional library within a State, congressional district or the 
  207. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is designated as a depository for 
  208. Government publications, the head of that library shall furnish his 
  209. Senator, Representative, or the Resident Commissioner from Puerto 
  210. Rico, as the case may be, with justification of the necessity for the 
  211. additional designation.  The justification, which shall also include a 
  212. certification as to the need for the additional depository library 
  213. designation, shall be signed by the head of every existing depository 
  214. library within the congressional district or the Commonwealth of 
  215. Puerto Rico or by the head of the library authority of the State or the 
  216. Commissioner of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, within which the 
  217. additional depository library is to be located.  The justification for 
  218. additional depository library designations shall be transmitted to the 
  219. Superintendent of Documents by the Senator, Representative, or the 
  220. Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico, as the case may be.  The 
  221. Commissioner of the District of Columbia may designate two 
  222. depository libraries in the District of Columbia, the Governor of Guam 
  223. and the Governor of American Samoa may each designate one 
  224. depository library in Guam and American Samoa, respectively, and the 
  225. Governor of the Virgin Islands may designate one depository library on 
  226. the island of Saint Thomas and one on the island of Saint Croix.

  337. Only a library able to provide custody and service for depository 
  338. materials and located in an area where it can best serve the public 
  339. need, served by existing depository libraries may be designated by 
  340. Senators, Representatives, the Resident Commissioner from Puerto 
  341. Rico, the Commissioner of the District of Columbia, or the Governors of 
  342. Guam, American Samoa, or the Virgin Islands as a depository of 
  343. Government publications.  The designated depository libraries shall 
  344. report to the Superintendent of Documents at least every two years 
  345. concerning their condition.

  347. The Superintendent of Documents shall make firsthand 
  348. investigation of conditions for which need is indicated and include the 
  349. results of investigations in his annual report.  When he ascertains that 
  350. the number of books in a depository library is below ten thousand, other 
  351. than Government publications, or it has ceased to be maintained so as to 
  352. be accessible to the public , or that the Government publications which 
  353. have been furnished the library have not been properly maintained, he 
  354. shall delete the library from the list of depository libraries if the 
  355. library fails to correct the unsatisfactory conditions within six months.  
  356. The Representative or the Resident commissioner from Puerto Rico in 
  357. whose area the library is located or the Senator who made the 
  358. designation, or a successor of the Senator, and, in the case of a library in 
  359. the District of Columbia, the Commissioner of the District of Columbia, 
  360. and, in the case of the library in Guam, American Samoa, or the Virgin 
  361. Islands, the Governor, shall be notified to designate another library 
  362. within the area served by him, which shall meet the conditions herein 
  363. required, but which may not be in excess of the number of depository 
  364. libraries authorized by laws within the State, district, territory, or 
  365. the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as the case may be.

  448. copy of all Government publications either in printed or microfacsimile 
  449. form (except those authorized to be discarded by the Superintendent of 
  450. Documents); and within the region served will provide interlibrary 
  451. loan, reference service, and assistance for depository libraries in the 
  452. disposal of unwanted Government publications. The agreement to 
  453. function as a regional depository library shall be transmitted to the 
  454. Superintendent of Documents by the Senator or the Resident 
  455. Commissioner from Puerto Rico when the designation is made.

  525. (a) Upon the request of any accredited law school, the Public 
  526. Printer shall designate the library of such law school as a depository 
  527. library.  The Public Printer may not make such designation unless he 
  528. determines that the library involved meets the requirements of this 
  529. chapter, other than those requirements of the first undesignated 
  530. paragraph of section 1909 of this title which relate to the location of 
  531. such library.

  533. (b) For purposes of this section, the term "accredited law school" 
  534. means any law school which is accredited by a nationally recognized 
  535. accrediting agency or association approved by the Commissioner of 
  536. Education for such purpose or accredited by the highest appellate court 
  537. of the State in which the law school is located.
